The owner's manual clearly specifies 5w40 under the VW 502.00 spec. So far I've got 112k miles on my engine, it runs like a champ even though I drive it like its a guided missile. It gets an oil change every 7k miles with the Castrol Syntec. It burns no oil, engine is very tight. We have a Golf 7R and a Golf 7 GTi (stock car) with low oil pressure issues, We have replaced all the oil pressure sensors as well as the oil pump, cover and oil cooler on both cars. I’ve got a 14 plate manual r which I collected from a dealer last week with 22k on the clock. I love the car. But one thing I’m not so big on is the gearbox feel. It feels quite notchy going from 1st to 2nd then into 3rd. The top gears don’t seem to suffer so much.

What recalls has the VW Golf Mk7 been subject to?. The 2013-2016 Golf has had a few recalls in its time. One affected the DSG seven-speed auto transmission, which is susceptible to conductive deposits forming in the gearbox control units, possibly causing the gearbox fuse to blow. .
